PennEnvironment is working at the state and federal level to promote
clean energy solutions that will cut global warming pollution while
protecting public health and growing our 'green' economy.
Our work is desperately needed: Pennsylvania creates more global warming
pollution than every other state besides Texas and California, and
global warming's impacts on the state could include everything from more
heat-related deaths to more severe flooding.
PennEnvironment's work at the state level focuses not only on
implementing the types of clean energy solutions that are needed to cut
our pollution levels (renewable energy, energy efficiency), but also on
crafting a broad state-level climate action plan outlining specific
pollution reduction targets and time lines for Pennsylvania.
At the federal level, PennEnvironment is home to many key members of
Congress in the federal energy and global warming debates. So we're
working to ensure that these politicians are pushing for policies that
do what the science says is necessary in order to prevent the worst
effects of global warming.
Specifically, Global Warming & Energy Interns will assist with the
following projects:
• Media Outreach: write letters to the editor, press advisories and
releases, and disseminate these to media outlets. Interns will also help
with radio feeds and organize press conferences.
• Research global warming's impacts on Pennsylvania, clean energy
solutions like wind and solar, and politicians' records of supporting
these solutions.
• Coalitions: work with other organizations to promote clean energy
solutions and aggressive action to cut global warming pollution.
• Writing: interns will help PennEnvironment staff research and write
reports and/or fact sheets on the potential benefits of renewable energy
and other global warming solutions for Pennsylvania.
• Advocacy: Help PennEnvironment staff prepare testimony and lobby to
promote energy efficiency, renewable energy and other global warming
solutions.
• Grassroots: Help organize citizens to have their voices heard in
global warming and energy battles, help update the PennEnvironment
global warming and energy web pages, and help with the PennEnvironment
e-mail action alert network.
