Dear Editor:
It is high time Congressman Patrick Murphy received the praise for his
leadership that he deserves (“Murphy Delivers in Prime Time”, Aug. 18). After all, he is not only a proponent of veterans’ rights but also a
strong voice in Congress for the environment — and his voice is becoming ever more important with the issue of offshore drilling coming to the forefront.
America has an expensive and dangerous dependence on oil that sends over $700 billion overseas every year, overlooks our capacity for green energy growth, and threatens our national security by leaving us at the mercy of hostile nations — all while contributing to global warming. Meanwhile, even the Bush administration’s Energy Information Administration says that drilling off our coasts would have “no significant” impact on gasoline prices.
Bucks County is home to several shining examples of how clean energy solutions that help to tackle global warming can also help grow our local economy. Murphy should continue to reject dirty energy gimmicks like offshore drilling, and should be applauded for his leadership in Congress in helping to bring more of these clean energy solutions to Pennsylvania and the nation as a whole.
