Have you ever been stuck in a traffic jam and become annoyed as you
reach the start of the congestion expecting to find an accident, only
see a lane closed because of road work? It's no wonder that thousands
of Philadelphians opt for SEPTA trains and buses, rather than sit
bumper to bumper on the Schuylkill Expressway.
With the Obama administration on the eve of passing a
multibillion-dollar stimulus bill, including billions for clean energy
and public transportation, we have a unique opportunity to impact not
just this region, but also the nation as a whole. While the bill
invests $10 billion for public transportation, it puts even more in
highways. Philadelphia-area members of Congress need to make sure we
put as much money, if not more, into public transit.
