We sued polluters breaking the law and won.

When it comes to polluters breaking our cornerstone environmental laws or regulators who aren’t taking the proper steps to make sure polluters comply with these laws, PennEnvironment has long worked to use the power of citizen enforcement actions under the Clean Water Act and Clean Air Act to address these issues. In 2013, PennEnvironment announced two legal actions to address the lax behavior of polluters and state agencies that caused more air and water pollution in Pennsylvania.

The Costs of Fracking

Fracking’s negative impacts on our environment and health come with heavy “dollars and cents” costs as well. In this report, we document those costs – ranging from cleaning up contaminated water to repairing ruined roads and beyond. Many of these costs are likely to be borne by the public, rather than the oil and gas industry. And as with the damage done by previous extractive booms, the public may experience these costs for decades to come.

Obama Administration Finalizes Historic Clean Cars Standards

Today the Obama administration finalized new clean car standards that will double the fuel efficiency of today’s vehicles by 2025, drastically reducing emissions of carbon pollution and cutting oil use in Pennsylvania and nationwide.  A recent joint analysis by the Natural Resources Defense Council and Union of Concerned Scientists projects that by 2030 in Pennsylvania alone, the standards will cut carbon pollution from vehicles by 8.4 million metric tons—the equivalent of the annual pollution of 1,285, of today’s vehicles—and save 720 million gallons of fuel.
