Healthy Communities

Pennsylvania’s extensive industrial history has left a legacy of toxic pollution that threatens our environment and public health. In 2002, our state’s industries dumped nearly 10 million pounds of contaminants into our waterways and over 89 million pounds of pollutants were emitted into our air, ranking Pennsylvania the sixth highest air and water polluter in the nation. In addition, the Commonwealth currently has the second highest number of Superfund sites—the worst of the worst toxic dump sites in the nation.

We all want a pollution-free planet, so PennEnvironment is working to cleanup America's legacy of hazardous pollution, and to halt future releases toxic emissions here in Pennsylvania and nationwide.
