Save money and energy: Get rebates and tax credits for home energy improvements.

PennEnvironment is partnering with Conservation Consultants, Inc. to help spread the word about incentives and rebates that Pennsylvanians can get for making their homes more energy efficient. Here are just a few:

  • Get up to $1,500 back for eligible improvements, such as insulating your home or installing a high-efficiency heating or cooling system.
  • Go solar! Apply for state rebates that pay up to $2,000 for a solar hot water system and up to $22,500 for a solar electric system.
  • Get an energy audit to learn what  you can do to save the most money and energy.

Take Action at Home

Five simple things that you can do to save money on your utility bill - and help save our environment.

1. Save 3 percent on your gas bill for each degree lower that you set your heat over an eight hour period.

2. During the summer, use 4 percent less electricity for every degree that you raise your thermostat.

3. Switch from old-style bulbs to CFLs and you'll cut your electricity bill for lighting by around 75 percent.

4. Switch to cold water and save $30-$40 in energy costs a year. When washing clothes, 90 percent of the energy goes toward heating water.

5. Save neaarly $34 a year in energy by cleaning the lint trap in your dryer before each load. The ultimate savings: a backyard clothesline.
