Repower America
- Energy Efficiency: Our research, public education and expertise showed the importance of strong energy efficiency standards, helping Pennsylvania achieve one of the most comprehensive energy efficiency plans in the country.
- A Solar Future: By issuing reports such as "Building A Solar Future," which outlines the potential benefits of solar energy and makes recommendations for increasing Pennsylvania's solar output, PennEnvironment showed the importance of solar to our new energy future.
Clean Water
- Exposing Water Polluters: AK Steel, located north of Pittsburgh, reduced its pollution into
Connoquenessing Creek by 30 million pounds per year, after a
PennEnvironment report revealed that the facility had excessively high
levels of water pollution.
- Protecting Drinking Water: With support from the Park Foundation, in March, we hosted a national summit on the threat gas drilling is posing to our drinking water and public lands.
- Cracking Down On Illegal Polluters: Our 2001 lawsuit against P.H. Glatfelter Co. forced the company to spend $30 million to upgrade its paper mill facilities near York, Pennsylvania. The company also paid a $2 million penalty, the largest settlement of its kind in state history.
