Save the Grand Canyon: Stop toxic mining!
The Grand
Canyon is one of America’s greatest national treasures, but a new
“gold rush” has created a disturbing trend that threatens the Grand
Canyon and other national parks from toxic mining pollution. Since
2003 alone, 800 new hardrock mining claims have been staked next door to the Grand Canyon. With cyanide regularly used to mine these
minerals, the Grand Canyon could suffer from
completely legal toxic contamination. We
need to protect the Grand Canyon and our
national parks from dangerous mining pollution—now and for future generations. Email
Pennsylvania’s
senators Bob Casey and Arlen Specter and ask them to support HR2262, the Hardrock Mining and
Reclamation Act of 2007, or similar legislation to protect the Grand Canyon.
Our Natural Heritage
Pennsylvania’s state parks and forests serve as habitat for endangered species, protect water supplies and provide recreational opportunities. We work to ensure these iconic treasures will survive. More >>
